It was impossible for me to get an upgrade from XP wizzman.  I didnt own a XP Licence!

I was $20 off.  When I purchased Vista 64 Pro OEM end of 2007, it was $149 (got the receipt in front of me =P)  Drak got it for same price.  Our dollar was about $0.85 to the US $1.00.

By the time our Dollar was $0.98 to the US$1.00 6 months later, it was below this price to around $129.

Now its back up to $195ish for it, as our dollar is only $0.65- US$1.00

Just something I found funny.

Vista didn't come to a great start in Japan/Tokyo either. Apparently there was some special rules here about OEM version and what type of hardware the OEM version can be sold with and Microsoft wanted to change that. Anyway, very few people were buying Vista in Tokyo (note if you want the English UI then you basically have to buy Vista Ultimate) and Microsoft ended up backing down on the rule change.

There are plenty of shops now selling Vista attached to a floppy drive.. I don't remember the last time I saw a machine around with a floppy drive in it but this certainly helped the sale of floppy drives.  Grin

You can't just go out and buy OEM versions from a shop.. the deal for OEM software is that it needs to be sold with hardware, usually this means a computer system. Eg., the vista you get when you buy a system is OEM version. In Japan the rule didn't tie the OEM to a new system but just computer hardware - in this case, a floppy drive because it's cheap.

Microsoft tried to change this back so the OEM version of Vista had be be sold with new computer system hardware but failed.  Shooter

it's the same here for some software programs, for instance internet security, however it's different for each company

Trend Micro for instance says it needs to be bundled with a new PC

Nortons on the other hand stipulates that it only needs to be sold with $100 worth of computer hardware

I purchased Vista Home Premium (I dont know why that website said $299) for $129 before Service Pack 1 was even a conceived entity (yes, Premium not Basic).  Thats about 1/5 of the average weekly income of today in Australia.  I could get the Ultimate Version of Vista, and it would still be cheaper (in relation to inflation) of XP, 2000, NT and possibly those before it.

no you didn't, you bought an upg, all you needed was the xp disk to verify you had a licence for windows, therefore you got to do a fresh reinstall from the upg disk, there is no way you could have bought vista retail for $129

We both bought the OEM version, not the upgrade.

Are we talking weekly income before or after tax?  Wink

Try being a gnome.  It's not very cool, but funny as hell seeing that little toon blast stuff.
