As many of you know all I ever do is talk about music and how much awesomeness music is.

So this post is being made to share all the awesomeness with you and for you to share your awesomeness with me.

I suppose I will do one band or so per post cause there is much awesomeness to go around!

To do so I will post some of the better YouTube videos I can find, and I suggest you do the same. (Sometimes these take away from the quality, but they will do)

My first band of postage will be : Of Montreal.

I started listening to them like a week ago and I'm hooked.  They are a mix of all sorts of music.  You can hear a bit of Beatles, Shins, Queen, Beach Boys, etc mixed into the sound.  They are pop with synth with deeper meanings to songs which is rad and 1/2.  Most of the songs deal with love and drugs so I'm told  Tongue.

Of Montreal - Wraith Pined to the Mist : The 1st clip makes me beyond happy and as giddy as a school girl.  If I did drugs I'm sure this would be even better (Asmo let me know). And it sounds like the Outback Steak House commercial because they were the ones who did it FYI.
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8cCPH1qnYI" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8cCPH1qnYI</a>

Of Montreal - So begins our Alabee : Fun 80's ish sounding.  Song for his newborn daughter.  Almost brings tears to the ol' eyes when you really listen to it.
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtlmyWDbVTw" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtlmyWDbVTw</a>

Of Montreal - Requiem for O.M.M.2 : Another fun and Pop-like one.  Sounds very beatlish.
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRjJh0cqAEo" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRjJh0cqAEo</a>

Of Montreal - Disconnect the Dots : Sounds awesome and beautifullllllllllllllllllllll.
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSyGi5c8Fkk" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSyGi5c8Fkk</a>

Well there is that sample of todays band.  I hope for the rest of you to share your music or maybe broaden your horizons.  I don't want this to turn into a bash session of other people's tastes and prefrences, but rather to share, inform, learn, and possibly add a new fan base to music you listen to.

Give it a shot.

ENJOY!  Grin

Ahh corey so wise Smiley Great idea my old chum Smiley

Interesting stuff there - while not my first personal preference style of music it does have a certain quality to it that is very reminiscent of the beetles etc. Were i high on acid im sure id be doing the monster mash all over that shiz Tongue

So for a taste of something from the other end of the spectrum.. not quite all the way at the other end by any means but still a long way from the beetles ;P

Welcome to concord dawn :

Concord Dawn (aka Evan Short & Matt Harvey) burst onto the New Zealand music scene back in mid 1999 with their unique high octane Drum and Bass sound. After a year or so of underground success they were courted by local electronic music label Kog Transmissions and released their first album Concord Dawn in July 2000.

NOTE: if you dont listen to Drum and Bass theres something i need to make you aware of first. Drum and bass requires you to actually listen to it differently than conventional main stream music. When you first start playing these tracks they will sound hectic and waaaay too fast. However thats because your brain subconsciously focuses on the highs. What you need to do is listen to the bass line and let everything else wash over you. - a little hard to do at first but trust me it makes a huge difference Tongue

1. Morning Light - One of their first commercial hits. An absolute stonker of a track, full of emotion and it also carries a lot of meaning for me as i was involved in helping these guys get the footage for this video - all of auckland city so you can get a glimpse of my home town Cheesy From their third album

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBx-fOmnGUY" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBx-fOmnGUY</a>

2. Dont tell me - More hip hop orientated - the guy doing the vocals is a guy called tiki who is the lead singer for another well known new zealand band called salmonella dub Smiley From their third album

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2Z0AUVD55c" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2Z0AUVD55c</a>

3. Broken Eyes - From their latest album - has a more rock/metal tone to it. As you ca nsee from the video clips they have had a much bigger budget to make these later movies and this one is one of the better produced ones Smiley

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzoFcYAVXWQ" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzoFcYAVXWQ</a>

4. Man for all seasons - the killer track of their latest album. An absolute dance floor killer, radio killer its possibly one of the biggest tracks they have produced to date. My personal favourite atm Smiley

I really liked the ones you posted Neh, gave me some ideas of what new kind of music to look for  Smiley.

I'll give you some samples of the music i like and might be new for you given most of it is in spanish, the lyrics are cool, but don't worry cuz the beats are better, i won't be adding comments to the songs so you can have your own opinion Tongue

First we have Manu Chao, he is from Spain but lived his childhood in France where his parents moved to escape from Franco's dictatorship, his songs have a lot of etnic influence and he likes to be repetitive but somehow you don't get tired.

1. Me gustas tu (I like you). one of his first hits
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYe2UparqZs" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYe2UparqZs</a>
2. King of Bongo. this one his latest hit; i don't post the original video cuz it has terrible quality in youtube, but this one isn't that bad
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCByyOTBD4A" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCByyOTBD4A</a>

Now here we have Moenia, this is an electronic/pop/experimental group from Mexico City, their vocalist left the group a few years after the group was formed, with a new vocalist and new image they produce better music in my opinion.

1. Manto estelar (stellar mantle).
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qzEoFqRPDw" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qzEoFqRPDw</a>

2. Regreso a casa (return to home).
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbuDCB3nDqQ" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbuDCB3nDqQ</a>

3. Juegos de amor (love games).
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKSXT8vqgbU" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKSXT8vqgbU</a>
on a side note this video was done near  to where i live  Wink

4. Ni tu ni nadie (neither you or anyone). this is a funny video, the song is a cover of another 80's song
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMD8MGZc3aI" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMD8MGZc3aI</a>

And for last we have Wir sind Helden (we are heroes) a german rock/pop group, i got to know of them taking my first lessons of german now i'm a big fan; die Sängerin gefählt mir  Smiley

1. Aurelie.
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Xf2sz7X-II" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Xf2sz7X-II</a>

2. Denkal (monument).
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7eo92KZsrYY" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7eo92KZsrYY</a>

3. Nur ein Wort (just a word).
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3f9Ift44SS4" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3f9Ift44SS4</a>

4. Guten Tag (good afternoon).
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWtQHw_B48o" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWtQHw_B48o</a>

Sweet! Feedback ftw! Glad you liked the idea Asmo  Kiss

As for Asmo and Rasho's : I don't think I have ever heard of Drums and Bass (DnB) music in my life.  Not so much my style, but very much worth a listen.  It feels very like ... Industrial / Controlled caos type of thing going on, and I to be honest I was diggin' your last song there Asmo.  Thanks for sharing.

Funken : First two were a bit strange for me, but had this Bob Marley feel to them which was cool.  As for Moenia : Pretty cool stuff, very different from any form of music I have heard from the Mexican region.  Sounded late 80's/early 90's with a 21st century twist.  Then we get to the German band Wir sind Helden : 1st two songs were pretty rad, made me want to jump around and the 3rd song was a bit out there but fits.  If only I could understand what they were saying, that would increase their rep with me cause I'v become this lyric nut but still a great experience (Which is exacly what I want from everyone's post).  Thanks for sharing dude.

NOW...onto the band that I constantly talk about being on TV or some such.....

The Shins!

First hooked on the song "Caring is Creepy" from a skateboard video way back when, then later listening to them almost a week straight at some stupid family reunion for mere survival, this is one of my most beloved bands of all time.  Sweet melodies and lyrical genious prosed by lead man James Mercer holds the foundation of this band.  They are Pop without the lame-assness of mainstream US.  Lyrics that will make you think and wince the night away (new cd  Tongue). Also you might know them from "Garden State" (Great movie by the way). Sit back and prepared to be mystified!

The Shins - Australia : Not an official video (just something some dude made) but my favorite off their new cd "Wincing the Night Away"

The Shins - Phantom Limb : Also from the new CD (debut single), strange video but cool and calming song; and the sound is kinda tweaked cause of freaking YouTube.

The Shins - Turn On Me : From the night I was freaking out in guild vent cause they were finally going to be on TV!  The girl is from a band Viva Voce (which I havn't listened to yet).

The Shins - Kissing The Lipless : I was addicted to this song for the longest time, all started on 9 hour car drive my friends!

The Shins Live : Found this on the Tube, They are really great live and this is a display of 4 or so songs from their 2 preivous records.  Also to note most of these are being played really fast and mixed a bit from the original, but still good.  If you don't have 14:19 mins to spare then fast forward to about 8 minutes in to hear one of my other fav's as they call "the funk jam"!

The Shins - The Past And Pending : This is my thinking song. The most chill song ever, puts your mind into spaced out places with owns face.

If only there were videos for every song and time for the listeners to listen...cause they are ALL great...sigh.  Oh well, enjoy the freaking amazing x 1 billion band : The Shins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMFGGGGG!!!

PS. Keep the music coming, this is fun  Cheesy!

Ill try again.... but it wont be as informative Sad

My fav, the one and only Electronic Punk grp...

PRODIGY (formerly known as The Prodigy)

Ill try and keep this is in order...Ill only go up to the 2nd albulm for now, naming the best Cheesy

FIRST SINGLE
What Evil Lurks (
)
Sorry, poor link, but only sample i could find. It was released as a 12" vinyl record in February 1991 in a limited number, it sold around 7-8000 copies. The four tracks were part of the 10-track demo Liam Howlett sent to XL Recordings when he was trying, and of course GOT, a record deal. Pretty sick. This Vinyl is SOO fucken hard to find. Might some day Ebay search it. Prob cost a Friggen mint.

SECOND SINGLE
Charly (
)
This song got me listening to Prodigy. The samply is cool too. It was from the British children's public information film Charley Says. Liam Howlett was sued for unauthorized use of the sample, won the case. This got them no.3 on the UK charts, and pretty much said to the clubbing world "HERE COMES PRODIGY". The sample was used again too Tongue

After this single, they released their first Albulm....
EXPERIENCE
It contained Charly and a number of huge club hits. Its the old school Prodigy we all love to dance to Cheesy

Everybody in the Place (
)
This song is very cool. Nice fast beats, another big hit in the clubs. Was 2nd on the charts to Queen, Bohemium Rapsody. Sotra tells you everyone was pretty much on drugs that year in England.

Outta Space (
)
Claaaaaaaaasic. Used to dance sooo much to this song. Lots of sweet little acid beats, very cool. Its one of those songs that, when you find yourself wasted on a couch in some dark rave club, picks you up and throws you into a hour long dance session, with no idea how you got the energy.

SECOND ALBULM
THE JILTED GENERATION
Every song rocks. Best albulm EVER MKAY!

Voodoo People (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKHhtRmivgs (Embedding disabled, limit reached))
This song needs NO introduction, but you'll get one anyhow. Most remixed Prodigy song ever made, and probably most played. Even if you arent a Prodigy fan, you'll love this song. you can listen to it chilling out, in the car, or at da club. If i play it on a set, it comes on early. IT STARTS THE PARTY!

Latests remix by Pendulum is pretty cool. It has Liam Howlett, the brain behind Prodigy (guy in hat) the vocalist/MC Maxim (black guy) and the crazy dancer/vocalist Keith (white hair, psychotic) featured in it. Check it out. Cool clip too.
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFyoL5CixVg&mode=related&search= (Embedding disabled, limit reached))

One Love (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vxm_uYqzzHs (Embedding disabled, limit reached))
Love this song. I used to to chill out to this song. Play the single over and over again. From the movie "Hackers" too. Cool Movie. back then, hackers were THE GOOD GUYS! /cry...what ever happened to those days Sad anyhoot, listen to it, its a great prodigy all rounder. Solid Bass, good to drink beer to Cheesy

No Good (Start the Dance)
Ok...this song...is..the...fucken bomb. My favourite song of all time. EVER! Its the element of what true Prodigy is all about. steady beats rising in tempo before exploding your senses with electronic brain sweetners! I prefer the 6min+ albulm track (found here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F11xbqq7QGM (Embedding disabled, limit reached)), but the video clip is very cool, Keith and Liam rock (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bKL1ptf71M (Embedding disabled, limit reached)). LISTEN TO THE FIRST ONE! the 2nd link is just for the video clip Cheesy. I had this single. stolen now. Trying to get it again.

Was going to list more from that albulm, but ill quickly list 3 goodies from the next albulm...
FAT OF THE LAND

Breathe (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_aLMp1BkSg4 (Embedding disabled, limit reached))
Biggest ever commercial hit. Not a big fav of mine, but the wanna be Prodigy fans loved it. Dont get me wrong though.still cool. The bass, VERY cool. Ive destroyed many a speakers with it. Some clubs in Canberra wouldnt play it simply because of that facts. hehe. Video clip was cool though.

Smack my Bitch Up (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPm997UbrBs (Embedding disabled, limit reached))
Coolest ...Music Vid...EVER....and then it was banned by MTV LOL. the song is very cool, bit of a prodigy head banger if you like, or the pass-the-pipe around song.

Firestarter (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ach9Byn2ND4 (Embedding disabled, limit reached))
Along with Voodoo and Breathe, this is one of prodigy's biggests hits. the song is sooo cool live. They always put on sweet as effects. This is like Breathe, but on speed. Much better. Keith caused a few raised eyebrows in this clip by his appearance in the music video. Gotta love him. He obviously does the vocals in this one too. My 2nd Favourite Prodigy song. LOVES IT.

And Random...

Zeroes and Ones
3rd Favourite prodigy song. It just sounds so friggen rad. VERY hard to find, ive only got an mp3 version /cry I love to unwind to this song. Well, its sorta half prodigy, but, still cool. Jesus Jones released it, and the single contains a sick Prodigy version.

Edit:

Oh Fortuna (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-qwYoMXQbI (Embedding disabled, limit reached))
I just had to! so many good remixes of it out there too. PS Love Hellsing =)

Neh

Listened to Australia, Kissing the Lipless, and Turn on Me. Shins arent really my style, but I did like "Turn On Me".

Im a bit more into indy rock/pop when it comes to chilling out though, stuff like Linkin Park. Once i have time and cash, prob going to grab a CD of two of stuff like Skillet and Thousand Foot Crunch (Discovered them through Zarnak, never heard them on Oz Radio). You'll prob like them too.

Absolute (Thousand Foot Crunch) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AG1JS7EiSsM (Embedding disabled, limit reached)
Collide (Skillit) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBp3R77rRvc (Embedding disabled, limit reached)

Also big fan of the song Korn, Freak on a Leash http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0DJngSWsTM (Embedding disabled, limit reached)
Very cool video clip. Not sure if its something you'll like Neh.

Of Montreal - Wraith Pined to the Mist
ZOMG lol..loved it. And I agree... that vid would be crazy if you were..a bit..."outta" it.
Of Montreal - Requiem for O.M.M.2
LOLOLOL...seriously...Its like... If the beatles and the monkeys got REALLY fucked up, passed out, woke up in 2006, and had MORE drugs, and made a song together.
Of Montreal - Disconnect the Dots
OK.... That video clip so spun me out...LOVED IT. Sooo maaaaaaaany briiiiight colours!

Id say id prefer Of Montreal > Shins.... Of Montreal made me giggle, and wanna get really fucked up <3

Neh... went looking for more Of Montreal

Of Montreal - So Begins Our Alabee!!!!!
Ok... this song belongs at Stone Fest! Its like....Jimmy Hendrix on waaay too much coke. Pretty crazy. loved it. But, at times, the video clip made my eyes hurt! PS.... i saw the boat in the magic picture! Tongue

Asmo

Concord Dawn's not bad man, for a bunch of Kiwis.
Morning light seemed a bit ordinary for my liking. But loved the rhythm and beats in "dawn man for all seasons". If it had a bit more vocals, or some sorta catchy sample, i might have tried to have secks with it. :Dont Tell Me: was pretty rad.

I guessing these guys are pretty new. If so, they have a lot of potential. They just cant be too scared of being original. Lot of talent.

You love these ones...

Roni Size - Brown Paper Bag (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOxjgGODakg (Embedding disabled, limit reached)) and Heroes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KlfMYZcL9w (Embedding disabled, limit reached)). Old Skool ones. The Railing is another, your've heard that in my car.

And even you should remember....the great... GOLDIE!
Lets go back to 1995... and "Inner City Life" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdlZqLiCDS0 (Embedding disabled, limit reached))

Good Times man..good times

I have to say... Firestarter.. quite possibly the greatest ever prodigy song. Primarily because it was the first cd single i EVER bought in my life. Ahh such fond memories almost 10 years ago now. Fuck i feel old.

Also the Pend remix of V people is easily the best one ever. Manages to be distinctly pendulum without detracting from the original track in any way - genius.

Love "the size" Cheesy and love a few of goldies tracks but more into people like dillinja, peeshay, sometimes a bit of klute.

Check out anything - and i mean anything - by a DnB group called Black Sun Empire - out of the Netherlands .. 100% dope :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BE6wt300Vfw (Embedding disabled, limit reached)

almost impossible to find anything decent by them on youtube - but lots available on the likes of soulseek and limewire etc.

Nirvana is now considered a classic oldie..? I must be older than I thought..  Lips Sealed

Some of the tunes I've kept in my collection over the "years". Songs from movies tend to stick with me more than a single from an album (especially if I really enjoyed the movie):

Filter & The Crystal Method - (Can't You) Trip like I Do
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvRgIEmei-E (Embedding disabled, limit reached)
In my darker days, this used to be my road rage song..  Wink It does a good job at making me angry for no reason at all. Came across this from the movie Spawn - footage shown in the above linked "unofficial" YouTube video.

Shivaree "Goodnight moon"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3kBnRaZXOA (Embedding disabled, limit reached)
From the Kill Bill soundtrack. The last song stirs me up and this song calms me.

Video clip from Reservoir Dogs (bit of a violent & bloody video clip) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awMQC0-6RTM (Embedding disabled, limit reached)
From the Reservoie Dogs soundtrack. Despite the violent scene.. it's calming and it's a happy drinking song for me.

ZOMG this is frustrating!!!!! I can't find videos or clips for most of the stuff I want to post.  Sad Unless you want a live clip that looks like it was recorded on someone's cellphone.......

My taste is pretty varied and I have a schizophrenic CD collection. I'll start with two groups that kind of illustrate this.

Mediaeval Baebes - A group of (currently) eight British women who do versions of ye olden songs while wearing awesome outfits. Ya gotta love that. A lot of their stuff is very traditional and slow but sometimes they mix it up a bit. My all time favorite song by them is Isabella but I couldn't find that online anywhere.  Cry
Aria (Embedding disabled, limit reached) - Mediaeval Baebes with Delirium - This is a cool collaboration that they did with Delerium. Even if you don't like the song I think most of you guys will enjoy the video.  (Did I mention that most of them are hot? Tongue)

Wolfsheim Wolfsheim is a German synthpop band that has been around since the late 80s. They are one of my all time favorite groups, perfect for listening to in the car or while playing Wow.  Wink I swear they will get me a speeding ticket someday. I don't know why but I just find their music damn sexy.
I was lucky enough to see them at their first ever US show back in '04. It was truly amazing. The energy in the crowd and the excitment we all had to show them was really powerful and you could tell they were touched and maybe even a bit surprised.

Once in a Lifetime (Embedding disabled, limit reached) - Probably their best known song, off the Spectators album. If you go to a goth club you will hear this song. It is probably a bit overplayed but still my favorite. The music is upbeat but the song itself is actually rather dark.

Underneath the Veil (Embedding disabled, limit reached) - This song is off Casting Shadows. Someone took a bunch of clips from Fight Club and set it to the song. Since I love that movie I thought this would be fitting.  Wink

Find You&;re Gone (Embedding disabled, limit reached) - Another good song off Casting Shadows.

Enjoy!

OK, this is rather bizzare. While looking for videos on Youtube, I discovered one where the user was one of my good friends from college. Here is a pic of us from the Wolfsheim show. She is center right and I am center left.
